Discover our digital training for lawyers

Jarvis Legal provides regular digital training for law firms. The last one was held on Tuesday March 28 with lawyers from the Créteil bar.

Challenges of digital training

The objective of these digital training courses is to help lawyers understand the challenges of digital technology in their work and their client relationships. Secondly, we propose a method for putting change actions into practice within the firm.

Threats and opportunities of legaltechs

First, we recall the historical development of IT and its consequences for the legal sector.

Today, the evolution of technology is leading to the emergence of startups of a somewhat new type, legaltechs. These solutions are all based on cloud technology, which allows very significant processing capacity at low cost.

Their particularity is to offer new solutions to old problems, such as document search time, management of document models, or even sharing of information with clients.

Far from seeing this as a threat, we strongly encourage lawyers to take an interest in them (Jarvis Legal, Mon-avocat.fr, Doctrine.fr, etc.) because they represent an opportunity to save time, win over customers and increase their added value.

The American market in which we operate is a striking example of this point of view. While legaltechs have existed for more than 5 years, the density of lawyers is 3 times greater than in France and incomes are much higher than in France (in purchasing power parity).

So there's no point in worrying: you have to go for it!

Customers relationship

What benefits can we get from technology? Build customer loyalty, improve your daily relationship with them, gain new ones.

How will a client choose his lawyer? Satisfaction with a first deal, word of mouth, Internet. In these 3 areas, modern software tools allow considerable savings in time and image.

Do you know that 75% of legal problems are not handled by lawyers? Clients think it's time-consuming, complicated and expensive to hire a lawyer. Thanks to digital, you reverse this situation and attract new customers and new needs.

To obtain this satisfaction, the customer wants to access their file at any time, share information, know where their budget stands. Nothing could be easier if your firm has equipped itself with collaborative software solutions with a client portal and circulation of information.

Safety

New technologies are sometimes wrongly perceived as dangerous. Nothing could be further from the truth! Just as your money is safer in the bank than under your mattress, your data is much better protected in a professional French data center than on your small server in a cabinet cupboard.

You probably think that Gmail and Dropbox can be modern solutions? Technologically, yes, of course. But the data is stored in the United States, and circulates within American territory.

Did you know that the CNIL prohibits you from transferring the data of your customers outside the European Union without their consent? It is therefore important to check the location of your data.

Finally, your data belongs to you. It is illegal to prevent you from accessing your data or that of your customers. Before taking out software subscriptions, carefully check the conditions for returning and exporting your data, at the risk of being taken hostage!

In summary, new “cloud” technologies represent numerous opportunities for lawyers. Gain in productivity and development of customer relations are key advantages. It is by first choosing a digital management solution (such as Jarvis Legal) that you can then build the digital organization of your firm (for example digital communication with Eliott & MarkusJurimanagement ou Legaldev, computing with Integral Micro, legal edition with Dalloz, accounting with QuickBooks).

These solutions are much more secure than installed software or your own IT management. Your data should ideally be in France, without passing through the United States and permanently accessible.

How to change ?

It is essential that you take an interest in technology and digital, otherwise you will be gradually sidelined from the development of law and the added value of your field. To do this of course, attend our digital training courses and subscribe to our newsletter!

The key point for change is your functional understanding. Some tips for making a real change:

  1. Take an interest in the products available on the market
  2. Contact 2 or 3 market players and discuss with them.
  3. Choose among your contacts those who will advise you rather than those who will sell you products.
  4. Compare your way of working with their value proposition and agree to evolve your practices
  5. Verify that their technological solution is truly cloud and digital
  6. Reason financially on a cost over 3 years in order to integrate start-up costs and monthly subscriptions

You will then be able to make an informed choice and invest calmly in the development of your practice.
