Legaltech village: come and meet innovation
Opening data, collaboration and sharing information are at the heart of the open source approach. This is the meaning of the Paris Open Source Summit 2017.
Co-organized by OpenLaw and the Village de la Justice , the event brings together the French legaltech ecosystem around the concepts of openness and innovation in the legal market.
Openness is central to the legal profession, as demonstrated by professional collaboration and inter-professional partnerships. The ACE association 's most recent congress , held in October, focused on the theme of "Openness." On the technological front, the majority of legal tech companies originate from the world of software development, which is structurally organized around the concept of collaboration.
This openness has allowed the emergence of numerous promising or already fully deployed technological solutions. The question is therefore no longer innovation per se, but: how to disseminate it effectively within law firms?
Numerous workshops are being organized on a variety of topics. The opening conference will focus on "Organizational Transformation and Learning to Collaborate." Workshops will be led by OpenLaw, including a hackathon on "Machine Learning on Case Law Data."
For our part, we emphasize the following theme: "Put legaltech at the heart of your firm with platform software ." How, indeed, can a law firm access legaltech tools? Each application or solution operates independently and doesn't integrate with the firm's existing tools (such as email or practice management software). Furthermore, it's difficult to dedicate time to testing, subscribing to, and then using each solution. A lawyer is an entrepreneur, but not an IT director!
Put legaltech at the heart of your firm with platform software
This is why lawyers should be interested in the idea of platform software. Via an API (Application Programming Interface), they could access and connect different innovative solutions. They would thus easily benefit from innovative tools bringing immediate added value to the firm.
An API platform is a very specific type of IT architecture. Here is a fairly understandable definition from Wikipedia :
In computer science , an application programming interface (often referred to as an API ) is a standardized set of classes , methods , or functions that serves as a front through which software provides services to other software. It is offered by a software library or a web service , most often accompanied by a description that specifies how user programs can utilize the functionality of the provider program.
On a technological level, an API therefore needs to be 100% cloud and perfectly modular. Then, via standardized connectors, the platform software can communicate with any software wishing to interface.
Jarvis Legal works via API. For example, you can connect your bank accounts to Jarvis Legal's billing module. This allows you to monitor payments quickly and accurately.
Conversely, you may only wish to work with Jarvis Legal's customer relations module (CRM) and interface it with your internal billing system. In this case, your billing system must be cloud-based and have an API.
