The digital transformation of SMEs in France: what the Deloitte report tells us

Facebook ordered a report to Deloitte on the digital transformation of SMEs. The observation is clear with respect to other European countries: French companies are behind the times.

Digital transformation in France

However, there is no shortage of initiatives, both from the public authorities and from French Tech. But the vast majority of private players have not taken the measure of the digital transformation at work and the opportunities it represents.

The smaller the companies, the less digital they are. 11,5% of French SMEs sell their products online, compared to 47% of SMEs with more than 250 employees.

The use of digital tools internally is also less important in SMEs (11%) than in mid-sized companies (36%). We also see a greater gap in the adoption of digital tools between SMEs in France than in Europe.

Thus, companies are slow to invest time and resources to modernize their work tools, develop their customer relationships or improve the quality of their products and services.

What about law firms?

“When I look at myself, I feel sorry; when I compare myself, I console myself” said Talleyrand. This is a bit like the case for lawyers today. Although late in their digital evolution, their situation is not particularly different from certain sectors of activity, which are also in delicate situations.

The Haeri report submitted to the Minister of Justice in recent weeks establishes an observation in the legal community similar to that made for the economy as a whole. It shows to what extent digital transformation is a source of opportunities for confronting changes in the legal world.

Many services are now available at an affordable price: software, support services, shared resources. But only a real cultural evolution can make these tools relevant and profitable. It is therefore up to everyone to make these subjects their own.
